Costume styling and creation play an integral role in the successful development of character for television. Through critiqued design development on the dress form, students develop a sense of proportion, silhouette, line and style, while exploring current market trends. This study will also include exploration of costuming employment opportunities in the various media and entertainment industries. This course explores creation and embellishment of fabrics. After graduation, students may either begin their careers or may choose to transfer to Bachelor degree programs in colleges which offer Fashion Merchandising degrees. Demonstrate both customer service and management techniques, which apply to the fashion industry. The course also includes process documentation, portfolio design, and formal presentation. Domestic and foreign merchandise resources and vendor negotiating are also covered. In part one of two sequential semesters, students will cover concept development, research and sourcing, design and critique, patternmaking and sample construction.
